Masters in Agroindustrial Technology students visited ‘Hydroponics for Islamic Boarding Schools’ in Field Trip on Work System Design course with Dr. Nafis Khuriyati, a lecturer in the Agroindustrial Technology Department. The greenhouse cultivates Korean melon (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) or oriental melon. Korean melon has several characteristics, including golden yellow fruit with a white line, the flesh is white with a crunchy texture similar to a pear, and has a sweet taste when ripe.
Korean melon harvesting activities were carried out manually so that workers have non-ergonomic work postures when fruit picking occurs. The Work System Engineering course itself studied the implementation of an industrial work system that aims to balance working conditions and increase the comfortability of the worker. The Greenhouse for Islamic Boarding School Work System Engineering Project was carried out to create a solution to improve work postures and reduce the risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD).
